The American Historical Theatre Presents: Robert (Bob) Gleason as General Charles Cornwallis

Robert Gleason holds a degree in Theater Arts from West Chester University and is an ardent historian.  With an attractive tenor-baritone voice and strong musical background, he has appeared in over fifty plays and musicals.  From 1970-71 he toured Europe with the Seventh Army Soldiers' Chorus.  From 1980 to 1989 he was a spokesperson for the American Heart Association and presented a special costumed historical program, "They Signed For Us," across the United States.

Bob has been associated with the American Historical Theatre for over twelve years, traveling widely with the theater as James Wilson, signer of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, during the Bicentennial of the Bill of Rights.   He presents his programs regularly for Valley Forge Elderhostel and the Freedoms Foundation and on July 4th he often appears at the National Archives.

In their effort to present both sides of the conflict for American Independence, for their Patriots or Traitors campaign, the Valley Forge Convention and Visitors Bureau asked the American Historical to develop the character of General Sir William Howe.  Bearing a strong resemblance to the British General, and with his formidable breadth of knowledge on American and British politics, Bob Gleason was the natural choice for portrayal of this formidable character.  His understanding of the British side of the conflict then led him to undertake the character of Cornwallis as well.

Bob has four children and his wife teaches in the Philadelphia school district.

Bob also portrays Galileo, Christopher Columbus, Governor Clinton of NY, Patrick Henry, Edmund Randolph, Abraham Lincoln and, most recently, John Witherspoon, preacher and President of Princeton University.  Currently he is researching 18th century medicine with a portrayal of Dr. Thomas Bond, founder of  Pennsylvania Hospital.  Bob also appears in occasional films (the most recent being as John Jay).
